The "Ferret" developed for Y-12 was strictly for classification review. However, the essential function of the technology is to find information of value (IOV). What is "valuable" is determined by the user. IOV could include nuclear design data, insurance information, medical information, privacy information--you name it. What Q does with this information also depends upon what the user wants. It could use the IOV to determine if a document should be protected, to redact the information, to use the data to categorize and/or metatag the document, to create super-searches. Thus, Q is a very powerful, very flexible tool for all content management.
Q can be used to identify information of value in text files. In the Y-12 National Security Complex application, Q opens and reads documents that require a classification review. Its accuracy rates are in the 90% range (effectiveness and relevance), and it has demonstrated analysis speeds of up to 15 standard pages per second on a wide range of document types and lengths. However, it can also read medical records and automatically code them according to ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, etc. It has been developed to redact government documents for release under FOIA, removing both privacy and privileged information.
